FDIC’s Groenberg focused on bank vulnerabilities to potential economic downturn

Speaking to the House Financial Services Committee on November 16, FDIC acting chair Martin Gruenberg said the number of problem banks remains stable at 40 with no failures since 2021. Meanwhile, 14 new banks opened through October 2022, including the first mutual bank in 50 years.
